How acupuncture helps through menopause

Acupuncture works on the systems that menopause unsettles: temperature regulation, sleep, mood and the stress response. Studies suggest it may reduce the frequency and intensity of hot flashes and night sweats and improve sleep and quality of life, with effects that can last for months after a course of care. It is a good option whether you cannot take hormone therapy, prefer not to, or want support alongside it.

In Chinese medicine, the pattern behind your symptoms matters. Heat and dryness, exhaustion, irritability and insomnia each call for different points and formulas, and your practitioner tailors treatment to how the change is showing up in you.

Perimenopause, PCOS and irregular cycles

Hormone balance is not only a midlife question. Irregular or painful periods, PMS, PCOS and the years of perimenopause when cycles become unpredictable all respond to the same whole-person approach: regulating the cycle, calming the nervous system and supporting the liver and digestion that process hormones. Many patients start here long before menopause.

Seeing the full picture

Thyroid function, blood sugar, adrenal stress, gut health and nutrient status all shape how you experience this transition. When it is useful we add functional lab testing to see what is happening underneath, then build Chinese herbal medicine, food therapy and nutrition counseling around the results. If you are using hormone therapy or working with your gynecologist, we coordinate with them.

“The night sweats had me up three or four times a night for a year. Within a couple of months of acupuncture and herbs I was sleeping again, and my moods leveled out in a way I had stopped expecting.”
